One-Paragraph Biography

David Teten is a Partner with Coolwater Capital, known as “Y Combinator for emerging VCs”. Coolwater runs an accelerator for emerging VC fund managers and invests as a limited partner, into general partnerships, in fund management companies, and also directly into startups. He is Chair of PEVCTech, a community of investors in private companies using AI, technology and analytics to generate alpha, and Founders’ Next Move, a community for founders exploring new ideas. He is Founder of Versatile VC, backing early-stage “investment tech” companies which help investors generate alpha and succeed. He was previously a Managing Partner with HOF Capital; Partner with ff Venture Capital; and Founder of Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of NY.

David is Founder of Versatile VC, backing early-stage “investment tech” companies which help investors generate alpha and succeed. He was previously a Managing Partner with HOF Capital and Partner with ff Venture Capital, two early-stage NY VC firms. He is also Founder of Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of New York, the largest angel network on the East Coast. He writes periodically at teten.com.

David has previously advised such institutional investors as Birch Hill Equity Partners, Goldman Sachs Special Situations Group, Icahn Enterprises, LLR Partners, Real Ventures, Right Side Capital, Tiferes.vc, and Orascom TMT Investments (Sawiris family office. He has served on the boards of Ionic (sold to Twilio), Authorea (sold to Wiley), Earnest Research (Observer), Signup.com, and Whisk (sold to Deem).

David was previously a Managing Director with Evalueserve, a 2,500-person global research and analytics company; Founder and CEO of Circle of Experts, an investment research firm acquired by Evalueserve; and ran an outsourced software engineering/IT services firm. He has contributed original research on investing topics to Entrepreneur.com, Forbes, Harvard Businesss Review, PE Hub, Institutional Investor, Techcrunch, and VentureBeat. He holds a Harvard MBA (Second Year Honors) and a Yale BA (Distinction in the major).
